This series explores "Hidden Pandemic Trauma." As both a mass death tragedy survivor & humanitarian, the pandemic shook every aspect of my personal identity. The only outward sign of the trauma consists of shaking hands, which I can easily hide. These works are created using this physical side effect to achieve inner calm whenever this occurs.
This series explores "Self-Identity" in response to skin tone critique I have faced all my life. Each work was created from a real photo of myself, rendered as a drawing style in monochrome based on the light refraction in the original image. I have Native, African & Irish heritage. Assumed racial identities often force people like me into a single checked box to enforce a societal norm, often at the expense of our self-respect.
I am what I am -- even when depicted with the 255 shades of grayscale.
