The world feels alien, doesn’t it?
The pandemic was more akin to an experience of involuntary hibernation. What knit us together unraveled in this wakeful separation. We are unable to remember the outfits societies used to wear. Bare threads hang in the wind, too eager to orchestrate controversy to feel alive.
Within this short volume are the things left unsaid, snapshots too painful to describe. For this reason, each entry is between lines, sometimes describing aspects of my life I have never dared to put into words.
I wrote this the same way I write poetry. Bursts of insight. Spontaneous thought interlaced with snippets from the previous memoir. This is the final product. Shorter, but a great deal more honest. Honesty is something that seems to be discouraged in this current time period. I sincerely hope you will appreciate mine.
As an artist, self-rescue means owning who you are.
A world on fire will break and shatter the tenets of identity you’ve kept close to the vest. These fissure cracks of personality are met with alarm as we scramble to save the whole. But breaking doesn’t mean broken. A shift in perception isn’t the end of the tale. It’s just a transformation into something else. In this case, it means returning to who you were before the weight of everything demanded being "other." That takes courage.
This volume of poetry was completed during meditation sessions to find myself again through the noise. It is my hope that a poem or two in it will assist you the same way. May light, peace & healing always be with you.
As an artist, disquiet has shifted into something less solid.
Watching the dissolution of societies does that. The page cursor and the canvas ask questions I hesitate to answer now. As a child, I simply could not envision an advanced technological society that would flirt with annihilation to play games. Yet here we are.
2025 was quite the year. The last time humanity rolled the dice on this scale, we ended up with the dissolution of The League of Nations and World War II. For this reason, I thought it apt to frame this small poetry collection as an exploration of dice games, ending with the 'twice dice' favored by magicians.
Maybe these words will resonate with you. Maybe not. But we can't pretend to be anything other than who we are in times of crisis. I am a writer, artist & humanitarian. So if nothing else, I just hope you are inspired to be true to yourself as well in all you do. Thanks for reading.
2025 began with silence.
It echoes now with all we don't say, can't utter, and simply will not hear. "Disquiet" is an exploration of this feeling through the lens of philosophical introspection.
Started in 2023 as a post-pandemic art therapy exercise, I invite the reader to contemplate what words mean in an era like this one, where fear has crept into so many facets of human discourse.
A relationship is often defined as "having a passionate or romantic attachment."
Well, that definition leaves a lot left unsaid in today's world. Social calendars are automated. Virtual dates are a thing. Breakups via text are common. We also expect the 89% match on our apps to only be 11% dysfunctional.
You see, love is no longer the stuff of mythological tales and romance books. It's logical dance, a calculation aided by cheerful A.I. helpers who can even write our love notes. So exactly how do we define relationships in our modern age?
I tackle the question with a poetic finesse only a true neurotic can create. After all, there is one huge, overlooked advantage to being an introvert: You get to see how all the drama plays out and take notes.
